Our scholarship policy: No youth, teen or adult is turned away from any of our programs or services. We scholarship 98% of our members / participants. The Cheyenne River Reservation is one of the poorest in the United States. There is no casino, no public transportation, no libraries, no movie theaters, no shopping malls. Communities are spread throughout the 4,500 sq. miles, connected by mostly gravel roads.

Our financial support: Programs and operations are supported solely through contributions from individuals, churches, other YMCAs, Y’s Men’s & Women’s Clubs, YMCA of USA World Service, NAFYR groups, adult and youth organizations, businesses and foundation grants.

Co-operation with other local and national organizations is critical in our efforts to implement effective programs/services and to fully utilize and be good stewards of our human, financial and material resources. Some of our partners are:

Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe (CRST)

Juvenile Diabetes Prevention

Endowment Campaign

Gifts to our endowment fund provide support for our future growth. Interest from  endowment investments is there

when we need it.

Capital Campaign

Gifts to the Capital Campaign will fund the Lakota Leadership Center, a residence

and meeting house for volunteers and a training facility for local teens and adults.

The need for this facility becomes more critical as we continue to serve more communities. We receive more requests

from groups and individuals to come to volunteer than our current  housing capabilities. This lack of housing creates a

lost opportunity for the communities and the volunteer. The Center would also provide additional, much need program space

Clothing, Household or

Toy Donations

The Sioux YMCA collects clothing, linens, books, household items, and toys to periodically hold Rummage Sales in the different communities.  We enjoy these gatherings and the opportunity to provide affordable items to families. Most items sell for dimes and nickels which in turn are used to purchase items for our youth programs in that community. Single moms and others in special need receive items at no cost.

Please do not send non-seasonal items. We cannot store them.
