YEAR AROUND INITIATIVE

DIG PROGRAM

CREATING CONNECTIONS

The DIG Initiative brings staff and volunteers to the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Reservation in the fall and spring. The experience entails leadership development, unique community programing opportunities, and cultural immersion. Through school-age programming and Y-Without-Walls, the DIG Initiative develops an understanding of the global nature of the Y movement and way of life for a people very different from oneself.

This 14 day global staff development opportunity provides service to reservation youth and communities and is recognized by YMCA of the USA as a Global Certification Project.

BUILDING A LASTING IMPACT

Participants will serve the first half of their day in the Tribal Schools and the second half of their day programming at our Y Without Walls mobile sites. Program service spans 15 weeks from September to December, and 21 weeks from January to May, for youth ages 5+.

This program will create cross-generational connections and a deeper cultural immersion experience for all involved. This program will also provide well over 1000 meals to those that would not otherwise have a nutritional option, meaningful connections to adult role models, and expand Sioux YMCA programs and partnerships.
