DRIVE 4 SUPPLIES

MAKING CAMPING POSSIBLE

The Drive 4 Supplies started in 2017 and is a combined effort between the Sioux Y and our camping partners around the country. Running off of the Lakota concept of "Mitakuye Oyasin", which translates to 'all my relations' and is a sacred phrase used to describe the world's interconnections and how we are all related, the Sioux Y reaches out to our partners and asks for them to look at what supplies they aren't using and would be willing to donate. A U-haul and epic journey later, the Sioux YMCA and Camp Marrowbone put those supplies to work.

PROVIDING HIGH QUALITY SUPPLIES TO OUR HIGH QUALITY PROGRAMS

In 2018, the journey started in Boston, Massachusetts and included stops in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin and North Dakota, just to name a few. And that was only the official Drive! On several other occasions, the Sioux YMCA experienced donations that required a U-Haul to pick them up, including bunk beds and furniture for the new volunteer housing, as well as several trailer loads of building supplies. Due to the generosity of people that recognize the good work of the Sioux YMCA, many programs were enhanced by the Drive.

A HUGE THANKS

For decades, the belief that the world is interconnected and related has been a part of the business model of the Sioux YMCA. Mitakuye Oyasin. To everyone that donated or helped us out along the route, know that you are a part of the Sioux Y family and that all of us here in South Dakota thank you. You made a better summer possible for our kids, families, and communities. We appreciate your support and generosity!
