THE 'Y' WITHOUT WALLS
WITH OR WITHOUT WALLS
The Sioux YMCA offers summer Day Camp in 5 locations throughout the Cheyenne River Reservation. We operate out of our downtown facility in Dupree, as well as grass-roots Y-without-walls style in the following communities: Cherry Creek, Bear Creek, Swiftbird, and White Horse.
Day Camp in Dupree provides a safe environment where campers can develop their individual talents and passions, make new friendships, strengthen old connections, and learn the importance of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. The program runs Monday-Thursday 2-7pm and Friday 2-4pm.
Each week enjoys a different theme like Super Hero Week, Animal Week, and Weird Science Week. Activities are geared toward these themes and often include costumes, decorations, and silly skits. When volunteer groups are in Dupree, you can imagine the energy!
Y-without-walls Day Camp in Cherry Creek and Bear Creek is staffed by volunteers from the Sioux Y Initiative out of the Greater Twin Cities YMCA. These Y staff are the real deal and they come out to South Dakota for two week rotations. During their time, they share the secrets of friendship bracelets, chase monsters, and get into some serious water fights!
Day Camp in Swiftbird and White Horse is operated by YMCA Camp Marrowbone staff and includes weekly Family Nights in one of the communities. Everyone is invited for a nutritious meal, hilarious entertainment, and a chance to connect with others.
Ultimately each week of Day Camp, whether it happens near the cabin logs of Dupree or in one of the reservation communities, is filled with fun games and new activities designed by the staff and campers to give everyone a chance to be themselves and shine!
