The Onspewicakiyapi Wojupi, or Learning Garden, was established in the spring of 2015 through private donations and grants from the South Dakota Community Foundation and Seeds of Change. It currently consists of several raised beds, an assortment of delicious vegetables, and like all gardens, is a constant work in progress.
Our after school and day camp participants were involved the process every step of the way from adding screws to beds, harvesting the produce and watering, watering, watering!
As part of our learning program, we also teach healthy cooking classes. The classes and the produce from our wojupi supplements our feeding program throughout the fall. Children tried vegetables that they would not usually, simply because they came from the garden.
The garden has had an amazing impact on our youth.
